Brr! As the days get shorter and colder, we like to find indoor games we can play during a virtual learning break. Foosball is a fun, indoor game you can play on the kitchen table. Grab a shoebox and some clothespin to make the winning mark. Kick the ball to score a goal!
This hands-on activity is a fun way to entertain a recess at home. It can also help show small kids how to use their hands in different ways. This kind of tactile practice can even help them develop important skills needed to do things like dress and feed themselves.
Check out the instructions below to get started. You can also find us on social media @GreatWolfLodge and tag #pawsnplay to let us know how you did.
How to Make a Foosball Table in 17 Steps
Supplies:
- Foam Letters
- 1 ¾” Clothes Pins
- Scissors
- Paint Marker
- Box Cutter
- Glue Stick
- Liquid Glue
- 4, 2/16′ Wooden Dowels
- Shoe Box
- Construction Paper
- Ruler
- Pencil
- Ribbon
- ¾” Pom-Pom
- Decorative Tape
Time to Craft: 20 minutes
Step 1: Measure and mark with a pencil to make a rectangle on each end of the shoebox.
Step 2: Carefully cut out the rectangle on each end of the shoebox to make goals. This is an adult job. The box we used is 14×8.5”. Leave a 1.5” border.
Step 3: Measure and cut ribbon to fit around the opening of the goals.
Step 4: Secure the ribbon with liquid glue.
Step 5: Trace the bottom of the box on construction paper.
Step 6: Cut this rectangle piece out. This is an adult job.
Step 7: On the construction paper, measure 5 equal sections and draw lines with a paint marker. You can add arrows to help guide your players to score the correct goal.
Step 8: Add glue to the back of the construction paper and secure to the bottom of the shoebox.
Step 9: Add decorative tape to the edges of the shoebox for decoration.
Step 10: Evenly space the 4 wooden dowels on the box. Use the ruler to mark on the side of the box where the holes for the dowels will go.
Step 11: Use the box cutter to make holes for the dowels on the side of the box approximately 2″ from the bottom. This is an adult job.
Step 12: Once the holes are made, insert the dowels into the holes, leaving space for the dowels to hang outside of the box.
Step 13: Decorate the box with decorative tape and foam letters.
Step 14: Fold small pieces of tape in half and place in between the clothespin to pinch it closed.
Step 15: Place the clothespins on the dowels; we recommend adding 3 clothespins per dowel so you have an even team.
Step 16: Grab a pom-pom to use as a ball and you’re ready to spin the dowels to kick the ball! Game on!
