These days, a lot of us are reporting for work and retiring to bed under the same roof. Understandably, this can make maintaining a healthy sleep schedule difficult. Of course, adults aren’t the only ones dealing with the repercussions of when two worlds collide.
Kids must also find ways to separate their academic experience from time spent relaxing at home, even if the two happen to take place in the same environment.
We recently teamed up with creative living expert Lynn Lilly to incorporate a little something fun into the before-bed ritual. Remember, sleep helps promote cognition and focus, allowing students to more easily digest new information. With our original dream catcher project, your sweet dreams are a yarn wrap away! Check out the instructions below to get started.Â
Supplies:
- Yarn (4 different colors)
- Plastic Beads
- Sequin Ribbon
- Embroidery Hoop
- Embroidery Floss
- Scissors
- Feathers
- Liquid Glue
- White Felt
Step 1: Wrap the entire embroidery hoop with the white yarn. Set aside.
Step 2: String a few plastic beads on a different strand of white yarn. Check out the pattern Lynn Lilly uses below.Â
Step 3: Tie the yarn string of plastic beads to the top of the embroidery hoop.Â
Step 4: Cross the yarn string of plastic beads across the embroidery hoop and wrap around it to secure it. Continue crossing the yarn in a star-shaped pattern. Set aside.
Step 5: Cut the white felt in a circular spiral pattern. Glue the white felt carefully to form a rose. Set aside.
Step 6: Tie the different colors of yarn to the bottom half of the embroidery hoop. You can also tie sequin ribbon for a touch of glitter and glam. Add as many tassels of yarn and sequin ribbon as you wish. You can also tie additional feathers to the end of yarn.Â
Step 7: When you feel you have enough yarn hanging off of the embroidery hoop, glue feathers sideways on top of the tasseled yarn. We added three feathers to each side, but you can add more..Â
Step 8: Add the white felt rose to the center of the feathers.Â
Step 9: Hang and enjoy your new dreamcatcher!Â
We hope you had a blast making your very own dreamcatcher!
