Happy Earth Day! This year, we invite you to go green with Great Wolf Lodge! We recently went live on Facebook to celebrate with 3 sustainable activities for the whole family.
Watch the video below and leave your feedback in the comments section. As part of our recent partnership with One Tree Planted, we’ll donate one tree for every note posted!
Earth Day Activities for Kids
Check out the steps below to participate in these Earth Day activities for kids. Remember, these activities also double as ways to be more sustainable at home. Now, let’s get started.
Upcycling Cans
Step 1: Go on a hunt for old cans and clean them out. They could be from canned foods or you could collect them from your neighbors.
Step 2: Use a hammer and nail to make drainage holes in the bottom. Warn for safety and have parents do this.
Step 3: Decorate! An opportunity for kids to be involved. Paint or decorate cans with stickers.
Planting Herbs
Step 1: Fill cans with soil ¾ of the way up. Place seeds in and cover with another inch of soil. Repeat for each herb.
Step 2: Water each pot thoroughly in the sink or with a saucer underneath to prevent leaking.
Step 3: Create labels for each pot. Write what each herb is on a popsicle stick and then let kids color or decorate them. Place the right one in the corresponding pot.
Composting
Step 1: Grab a container with a lid. This is your designated compost bin.
Step 2: Make it your mission to collect any and all food scraps! You can do this with anything but let’s start small today with feeding our herbs.
Step 3: Sprinkle coffee grounds and crushed up eggshells into the pots.
Step 4: If you want to go bigger, check locally for compost collection and store all of your food scraps in the bin or a freezer bag.
We hope you had a great time participating in our Earth Day crafts. Don’t forget to check out our blog for more things to do at home. You can also visit us at the lodge. Check out the deals page for more information!
