After a long winter, everyone deserves to spend some time outside. Enjoy the warmer weather with a series of nature-based activities. The Great Outdoors Challenge from Great Wolf Lodge includes 10 different tasks families can explore together. You can perform them in the woods, at a park, or even in the backyard! Now, check out the slideshow below to get started.
The Great Outdoors Challenge
1. Pitch a Tent
Our first challenge involves pitching a tent in the backyard! This one allows you to get a taste of the great outdoors without having to travel far from home.
2. Build a Campfire
Keep the outdoor fun going by building a campfire. Grab some popular campfire foods to enjoy before you begin. Or, avoid the hassle by making something in the oven instead. Check out our indoors s’mores recipe now.
3. Catch a Fish
Find a local fishing spot. This hands-on activity will help the little ones practice their fine motor and problem-solving skills. It’s also a great way to boost confidence!
4. Plant a Mini Garden
Help your garden grow with this next challenge! Moving around and carrying planting materials is a great way to help the kids practice body management skills. Ask them to describe how things feel, smell, and taste as you complete the exercise.
5. Go on a Bike Ride
Get some fresh air by going on a bike ride. It’s a great way to get some exercise and spend time together as a family.
6. Build a Sandcastle
Build a sandcastle at the beach! You can also do this challenge at home with a backyard sandbox. Encourage the kids to use their imagination by creating a story around the castle. Is there a princess inside? What does she look like and what is she called?
7. Plan a Roadtrip
Summer is the perfect time to plan a road trip. Head to the beach or arrange a visit with family and friends! Make the best out of a long car ride with these road trip activities.
8. Play an Outdoor Sport
Inject a little competition into your summer plans! Play an outdoor sport to keep the kids active and entertained.
9. Go on a Nature Walk
Explore the great outdoors by taking the kids on a nature walk. Ask them to collect and record items that stand out to them. You can even create a DIY nature journal before embarking on this challenge.
10. Have a Picnic
Congratulations on completing all 10 challenges! Celebrate with an outdoor picnic. Pack everyone’s favorite summer foods and enjoy your time together as a family.
