October is one of our favorite months at Great Wolf Lodge! All of our locations celebrate Howl-O-Ween with spooky festivities such as daily costume parades, Spooktacular Story Time, pumpkin painting, and more. And what would Howl-O-Ween be without (weatherproof!) trick-or-treating? Every year, kids wear their costumes and dash through each resort, visiting unique stops created just for them. Last year, we added a special, and important, spot along the trail—a Teal Pumpkin.
Working with the Teal Pumpkin Project™ was a natural fit for us since we are passionate about accommodating food allergies, preparing food safely, and customizing meals to meet the individual needs of our guests. The Teal Pumpkin Project is a national campaign launched by the nonprofit Food Allergy Research & Education (FARE) in 2014. Its purpose is to ensure all trick-or-treaters can enjoy Halloween alongside each other, regardless of their food allergies. Participating families display a teal pumpkin at their home, letting trick-or-treaters know allergy- or sugar-free foods (or non-food treats) are available. Launched nationally in 2014, the Teal Pumpkin Project has attracted supporters from 50 states and more than a dozen countries.
We were excited to add a Teal Pumpkin stop along our trails last year for everyone visiting during their Halloween vacation. Throughout Howl-O-Ween, each Great Wolf Lodge resort had a designated Teal Pumpkin stop. To bring this idea to life, we partnered with Highlights for Children. Perfect for the Teal Pumpkin Project, copies of Highlights and High Five magazines were handed out to resort trick-or-treaters to take home with them. This was a great way to be inclusive and educate our guests at the same time—a win-win! We’re excited to continue this tradition for years to come!
